What is the water-lase laser and its applications?

The water-lase laser is a unique tool as it is the only laser in the United States licensed to target water. It propels air and water out of the handpiece, activating the water with the laser. This allows for various applications, such as cutting gums or soft tissue without numbing, which is beneficial for patients who dislike pain or numbing. It can relieve tongue ties in individuals of all ages without numbing, and can perform small biopsies. Additionally, it can apply laser bandages for cold sores and canker sores, remove skin tags, and conduct other cosmetic procedures.

Can the laser be used on teeth?

Yes, the laser can be used on teeth, especially for cutting small cavities in children. Many children fear needles more than anything else, so performing small cavity fillings without numbing can significantly improve their dental experience. This helps prevent fear of the dentist later in life and ensures they receive necessary care more readily. Small cavities in both kids and adults can be treated with this technology.

Are there any other benefits of using this laser?

The laser allows for atraumatic procedures around teeth or root tips by relieving the bone around them, making tooth removal less traumatic. It is one of several lasers available at the office, reflecting the commitment to staying on top of dental technology advancements.

What other technologies do you have at your office?

In addition to the laser, the office is equipped with a same-day crown machine, a 3D X-ray machine, and another laser. Dentistry has evolved significantly from what it was 50 years ago, and the office is equipped with modern technology to provide advanced dental care.

What if a patient is nervous about visiting the dentist?

For patients who are nervous about dental visits, the office can prescribe Valium or Xanax, and also offers laughing gas. Comfort amenities such as blankets, pillows, headphones, earplugs, and noise-canceling headphones are available. The laser allows for atraumatic procedures without numbing, which many patients appreciate.

How can potential patients get in touch with your office?

Potential patients can contact the office by calling (703) 451-4500. This is Dr. Jason Dulac from Dulac Dental in Springfield, Virginia.

Dr. Dulac has a Biolase Waterlase® Laser in the office. The laser is a great adjunct to traditional periodontal therapies to help with gum disease. It can also be used for other minor gum surgeries and to remove annoying canker sores.

With laser periodontal therapy, a tiny laser fiber (about the thickness of three hairs) is inserted between the tooth and the gum. The procedure is fast: It takes just minutes following a cleaning or scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) procedure. Dr. Dulac or one of his laser-certified hygienists will treat the affected area. The laser kills off bacteria and removes infected skin cells to help the gums reattach to the tooth. The laser improves healing and recovery in a quick and pain-free fashion.

The laser is also great for desensitizing canker sores. The laser is waved multiple times above the canker sore. Following laser treatment, the area is pain-free and heals quickly.
